I really enjoy your novels, Ms. Safak--so much so that I am doing my Master s thesis over The Bastard of Istanbul, The Gaze, and The Flea Palace. Your work is facinating for its shifting narratives, complicated character interactions, and weaving of past and present. Overall, I think your novels represent the best contemporary fiction out there, and I am enjoying writing my thesis because of them!

I m Libyan guy living in Tripoli, I guess that you heard about Libya because of our leader (The good Guedaffi), our feeling becomes different when we read some thing written by a Turkish writer...I don t know how to express or explaine why this always happens!!!any way, as you may know by Turkish history, the Ottoman troops were moving around all eastren europe some day in the past, and they selected the healthy kids and took them by force with or without the permission of their parents, then they send them to the holy Istambul and raise them as very good muslim soldiers, they were well educated with very good knowledge of all arts of war in that time...after that, those powerfull solders (or kidnapped kids) take their places as Turkish officers in new Turkish colonies, such as north Africa, aftermath those young soldiers got married with the muslim local girls...and we are the grandsons of those, and one generation after another, we became a real citizens, but, until now you can realize the difference between us and the native people of North afrika...I told you this long, old and sad story to make you understand why we love what you write...yes, because you reveal the dark side of Turkish history in your books, your books are not translated yet to the Arabic language, but, we can read you in English, and that s why you have a little club of fans here in Tripoli...Thanks for every letter you wrote.
